1 Paper text

  • For learning theory: representational sufficiency and learnability are separate questions. A promised predecessor state, complementary measurements, or sequential computation can each alter the resources available for an invariant-based decision.

  • For neural architecture: short history windows (or difference features) can be a principled way to bypass parity-like barriers without scaling depth/width. When history is unavailable, multiple rollout heads offer an alternative within a single-frame architecture. When growing processing time is available, persistent recurrence offers a third route, building the invariant sequentially and retaining it across positions.

  • For practice: circuit complexity can help formulate architectural hypotheses, provided the implemented model satisfies the mathematical assumptions. Tests of those hypotheses should distinguish representation, training dynamics, task distribution and computation budget.

2 Explain this

Three broader implications: for learning theory, representational sufficiency and learnability are separate questions; for architecture, short histories or difference features, multiple rollout heads, or persistent recurrence are principled ways around parity-like barriers; for practice, circuit complexity can generate architectural hypotheses, as long as the implemented model satisfies the mathematical assumptions and tests separate representation, training dynamics, data distribution and compute.
